The City of Cape Town’s Community, Arts & Culture Development Department is asking Woodstock residents on the best way to utilise “The Lab”, a building situated behind the Woodstock Library.
The building at 16 Clyde Street, currently known as “The Lab,” is undergoing a fresh transformation. Historically known as the Old Fire House and the legendary rehearsal space for the Cape Minstrel band “The Fabulous Woodstock Starlights,” this City-owned asset is ready for its next chapter. The Lab is currently being used for emerging artist programs and capacity training, and now, the City wants to know: how should the broader community activate this space?
Ward Councillor Ian McMahon opened the proceedings, sharing that the City’s goal is to ensure the sector is being used effectively for the community’s true needs. To do that, they need to hear directly from you.
