Sector Police Forum – Sector 2 (Upper Woodstock, University Estate, Walmer Estate)

In 2005 Sector Policing was introduced in the Woodstock precinct. The Woodstock SAPS precinct has been divided into four sectors. Woodstock, Walmer Estate and University Estate form Sector 2.

Constable Swart is the Sector Manager of Sector 2 police. The Sector Police would like to attend to community problems and get as much information as possible about any criminal activities. To report information anonymously, please call Const.  Swart.

The sector police steering committee acts as a bridge between SAPS and the community. If you have any comments, questions, complaints or if you are (un)happy about the service you have received from SAPS then please call Teun Baartman on 083 298 1009.

WOODSTOCK COMMUNITY POLICE FORUM

What is a Community Police Forum?
A Community Police Forum (CPF) is a non-profit, community-based entity. The law requires that every police station has a CPF. The purpose of a CPF is to establish and maintain a partnership and co-operatoin between community and police; to improve transparency and accountability in the Police Service; and to make sure that SAPS can and will provide the service the community is entitled to.

All kinds of organisations and institutions such as schools, residents associations, businesses, ngo’s and religious institutions, can become members of a CPF.

The CPF develops yearly community safety plans, which identify priorities and needs for the area. These priorities and needs are set by the community, through the CPF, and form part of the local police station’s operational plan. A CPF may also plan and implement its own safety projects, and can apply to the provincial government for funding for these projects.

Woodstock Police Station also has a CPF, which works closely together with residents’ organisations and SAPS. One of the biggest goals of the Woodstock CPF currently is to promote communication between SAPS and the Woodstock, Salt River and Observatory Communities and to get those communities more involved in the fight against crime.

The CPF is managed by an Executive Committee, which is elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Executive Committee of the Woodstock CPF consists of the following people:

Teun Baartman – chairperson
083 298 1009 / [email protected]

David Raphael – deputy chairperson

Brian Amery – secretary

Helen Swart – treasurer (Observatory)
072 241 2761 / [email protected]

Senior Superintendent Pierre Van Der Riel – Station Commissioner Woodstock
082 374 4916 / [email protected]

This committee meets on every first Tuesday of the month, 19:00, at Woodstock Police Station.

We welcome the input from the community on all policing and crime related matters. If you have any questions, information, comments, complaints or suggestions, please contact any of the above CPF members.

Victim Support Room & volunteers

A separate area of the Woodstock Police Station, the Victim Support Room, is staffed by volunteers from the community, who seek to empower victims and provide emotional support immediately after a crime and on a continuing basis as desired. The Room operates in cooperation with the police service and the Community Policing Forum.

Volunteers at the Woodstock SAPS Victim Support Room provide

  • a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen;
  • help contacting family or friends;
  • give guidance through symptoms of what one may feel as a result of the event;
  • help explain the process that needs to be followed;
  • help in communicating with the SAPS;
  • give practical help to avoid further problems; and
  • find referral to a professional counselling service if a traumatic response is profound.

The Victim Support Room plays a pivotal role in victim empowerment and support, but cannot function without volunteers. At the moment there is a serious shortage of people to help out and that’s why we would like to call on members of the community to volunteer their services and time, so that we are able to have a fully functioning Victim Support Room. We need you to support your community!!

If you would like to become a volunteer, please contact Sergeant Malila – 082 778 7344 or Teun Baartman – 083 298 1009.
